Can't remember clearly i read it somewhere or hear it from some common people on the street mentioning a judge minimum requirement is to be patriotic. Maybe i do not understand the term 'patriotic', do they mean putting the people in the country first or putting the government in the country first?
If is the later, meaning principle such as judicial review will not work, thus corrupted politician and unreasonable legislation will not get ratify or trial at the court.
If is the former, meaning the concept of ECJ and ECHR will not work, because on deciding a case, the judge will need to consider the people in his nation instead of substantive European law or natural law.
For me, a judge should be impartial when he is with his robe on and consider every case with the principle of fairness and just and human. Of course, if you understand a judge is also a human being, so when he is not with his robe, i guess he still can form some personal opinion as long as it won't overweight his judgement when he is on a court.
Again politician is different from Law, if you say politician min requirement should be patriotic then i fully support, because in that context meaning putting the people of the nation first, that is why EU prefer concept like intergovernmental over supranational and that is also why Brexit happen. But i am sad to say, most of the Asian countries instead of putting people first, the politicians putting their pocket first!
