A Democrat Presidential Candidate announced that he support legalising cannabis in the US. I feel a bit disappointed and losses some of my respect towards him, understand that how much harm the policy can bring to the society, I express my disfavour opinion on the social media post. What surprise me is that a lot of people actually support that policy and going against my opinion in the social media post, it then turn the post into an informal debate.
I first submit my reason of proliferation and the addictive nature of cannabis that it might allow some bad people to use it to control against its victim. And people are blasting me saying that is a conspiracy theory, what is irony is that, they are using another conspiracies theory as a reason saying cannabis is banned because the government wanted to prison the black people in the history.
Some argue from the point of liberty, saying the government shouldn't intervene their right to get 'high' and is not fair to sent them to prison while they are only doing something that make themselves feel better. That is the same like saying, if you feel good to drive fast, and because of that habit you causes death because of dangerous driving, it is not fair to sent you to prison, because you are only doing what you feel good, hence the government should not prevent any thing that is dangerous, which mean we are better to go back to the state of nature without any law where people can murder, steal, and rape as they wish.
Some argue from the point of health benefit from the plant which I seriously doubt the accuracy of the research. I mean guys, no matter how you want to portrait the plant as a miracle object that can cure cancer, improve economic, reduce crime rate, as it is the only solution for all the world problem, and the world doesn't need anything thing else beside cannabis out of your own self interest, there is a reason why the plant is banned at the first place. Unless you can show that after all the years, human race had already overcome the weakness why the plant is a banned substance. My observation is, we may have better aircraft, car or computers, but our behavior never change, human are still greedy, selfish, lustful, easily manipulate and full of envy. With this reason alone, I think it is a good idea to banned an addictive plant that can influence human rationality when using it.
Anyway, I think Bernie should be still given the credit for manage to raise the min wages in the US to $15/hour, but legalising cannabis to get the criminal's vote is not the right way to win an election.
